Rufus Wilson Freeman
05/20/2012 - 08/20/2023
Rufus crossed the Rainbow Bridge at just 11 years old after a short battle with a highly
aggressive cancer. He was adopted at from Midwest Beagle Rescue in 2017 and
immediately fit into our household, though admittedly it took his beagle Gabby a
while to become accustomed to not being an only dog. She did, however, retain her
role as the Boss and he was gentlemanly & smart enough to know not to challenge
that! In his way-too-short time in our family, Rufus represented the rescue well as a
breed ambassador, going on countless home visits and loudly announcing at events
that the beagles had arrived. And Rufus was beagle though and through, excelling in
all the important breed skills of digging, climbing, baying, trying to escape and of
course, anything to do with food. Having been a hunter before he was adopted, he
never fully abandoned those efforts either and was happy to try to rid the yard of
chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies and the occasional opossum. He was a very happy boy,
obsessed with his stuffed toys and once won a prize for his non-stop tail wagging. He
was one in a million.
